The Woodend CFA recently celebrated its 116th year at their annual dinner, with special awards presented to current and past members covering a total of well over 300 years of service to the community.

Life Memberships were presented to Bryan Scanlon and John Keating, who respectively joined the brigade in 1956 and 1970, and Honourary Life Memberships to Peter Barker and Laurie ‘Banker’ O’Brien, who both joined in 1953.

They were presented with their awards by CFA Operations Officer Justin Dally and Woodend Captain Mick Christie, the latter joining the brigade in 1984 and Captain since 2001.

5 Year Certificates were presented to Simon Bailey, Troy Bowen and Mitch Hobbs; 10 Year Medals to Paul Burgess, Brad Dean and George Keyes; a 15 Year Medal to Jayne Howley; a 20 Year Medal to Bob Wallace; and 30 years to Ray Colban

If you added up the total years of service to the Woodend Community by all members who attended the dinner, it would add up to well over 500 years.

In accepting his award John Keating said that he believed “the Brigade was in the best shape it had been for a long time, with a strong management team and enthusiastic member base”.
