She will take over Truganina Fire Brigade from her father Colin Squires on 1 July, making her the first woman CFA captain in any of the Wyndham brigades’ 100-year history.
Mrs Goodfellow, who joined Truganina CFA 25 years ago when she was 11, has been a volunteer firefighter with the brigade since she was 16 and its first lieutenant for the past two years.
Mrs Goodfellow said she was excited to be the first female captain in Wyndham, but that her appointment was a “natural progression” after being in the Brigade’s Management Team for about 10 years.
“I can see a few challenges ahead, but I’m looking forward to undertaking the role,” she said.
