A strong norwesterly wind helped to fuel a fire that had broken out in a single storey weatherboard home. Springvale & Dandenong brigades responded initially with Noble Park being called on for BA wearers later in the call.
Once the fire vented through the roof it spread quickly to the rear verandah and attached carport/garage engulfing the family car.
Crews worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighbouring house as flames lapped their fence-line and garage.
Senior Station Officer Bernie Frawley was the Incident Controller and he co-ordinated the crews with both an internal and external attack on the fire and gained control early on in the call.
The fire appeared to have begun inside the house and the cause was being investigated.
Police blocked off the street as essential service workers isolated power and gas supplies.
A majority of the structure and the contents were destroyed in the fire.
