The brigade was alerted in the early hours on Saturday 19th May. Captain Kim O'Connor was first on scene and established a control point and a word back of not yet under control followed. Wonthaggi Pumper was only 2 minutes away followed by Wonthaggi HAZMAT. Two fire fighter quickly donned on BA and started the fire fight.
One problem we had was that late model cars have plastic fuel tanks, and this did cause a problem for fire fighters has we had running fuel fires heading for storm water pits. Captain O'Connor gave the order to allow the fuel to burn on top of the water but also preventing it to flow down the storm water pits. It took fire fighters 30 mins to bring the blaze under control.
The car is a total write off and Wonthaggi Detectives were today looking over the scene to see if they could determine the cause of the fire, investigations are continuing.
