Much to the surprise of onlookers, Alexandra brigade's appearance at a local show was cut short following a call out to a vehicle rescue on Whanregarwen Road.

The crew and vehicles were at the Alexandra Truck Show when alerted by Vicfire, but well established planning by the brigade enabled crews to be assembled and vehicles mobile within two minutes.

Story by Alex Caughey

A mature-aged couple were lucky to survive a single car accident when their car skidded out of control and rolled off the edge of the Whanregarwen road and landed on its side.

The car was given a soft landing by a stand of wattle trees, which prevented it from rolling over. The couple were trapped, suspended in the vehicle for over 30 minutes.

Alexandra and Whanregarwen brigades supported Alexandra SES in the rescue while local ambulance and Air Ambulance crews provided initial care to the trapped couple, then checked and stabilised them prior to air evacuation.

Fortunately the couple only suffered minor injuries, but due to their extended suspended entrapment it was decided to air lift them to Melbourne via two Air Ambulances.
