Werribee and Wyndham Vale CFA volunteers have returned from London after competing in the World Rescue Challenge.

Although the team finished outside the top 10, member Lino Zulian said the group was proud of its achievements and that it was able to represent CFA and Australia on the world stage.

“The final results are not in yet but we all really enjoyed ourselves, it was a great opportunity,” he said.

Lino, who is a Lieutenant with Werribee Fire Brigade, said it was a challenge for the team to compete under different rules and scoring systems.

“The UK rules are very different to the Australasian system so we had to do our best but we were happy with our performance,” he said.

Lino said the road rescue team was now looking to compete in the Australasian event being held in Canberra next year.

This year’s team included Rob Mitchell, Lino Zulian, Adrian Kendall, Mark Mummery, Phil Menzies and Trevor Weston (Wyndham Vale Fire Brigade).

During the competition they competed in a number of events, some against the clock, testing command and control, road rescue techniques and medical response.
