A significant waste fire in Pakenham prompted the large response of fire crews shortly before 9:10pm last night (27th October).

CFA crews were originally responded to the vicinity of Princes Freeway & Koo Wee Rup – Healesville Road for a possible factory fire at that location.

Further information from multiple 000 calls indicated the fire was located in Drovers Place and could possibly be a rubbish fire as well as a message from an en-route appliance that the fire was visible from that location.

On arrival Incident Controller Lieutenant Stuart Mitchell from Pakenham Fire Brigade was faced with an industrial block approximately 40m x 90 meters containing multiple piles of demolition rubble and timber engulfed in flames.

Crews wearing Breathing Apparatus utilised ground monitors as well as the assistance of Dandenong Pumper 2 and Ladder Platform to apply large quantities of water over the area.

State Emergency Service (SES) crews from Pakenham and Narre Warren units provided lighting of the scene.

A stop wordback was placed at 1:50am with crews remaining onscene until shortly after 3:00am.
