Volunteers from local brigades Warrandyte, North Warrandyte, South Warrandyte and Wonga Park attended over the weekend, helping to marshal parade participants and running CFA stalls. The highlight of the festival is always the Saturday morning parade, led by Festival Kings Bernie Ebzery (Warrandyte Captain), Rohan Thornton (North Warrandyte Captain) and Greg Kennedy (South Warrandyte Captain). The Kings were followed by Warrandyte’s Pumper, North Warrandyte’s Tanker 1 & 2 and South Warrandyte’s Tanker. The rest of the parade followed after, including brigade members marching with Bendigo Bank to thank them for their continued support for the local CFAs.
Festival goers enjoyed the cooler than usual weather, and a few brave kids even used the water-slide, set up by North Warrandyte, who also offered snow cones and hot jam donuts for purchase. Members from Warrandyte helped to run a CFA information stall that promoted the message ‘Don’t wait and see’. The stall included safety messages, fire safety merchandise, an Easter egg guessing competition and activities for the kids like face-painting, badge making and coloring sheets. Everyone who visited was able to spend quality time getting to know the local volunteers and listen to the importance of having a fire plan.
Captain Bernie Ebzery would like to thank all volunteers who helped over the weekend and the community for their support and contributions towards the local brigades.
