Warragul gets behind CFA Sunday

Warragul fire station was a hive of activity yesterday with brigade members providing bushfire planning advice, tours of the vehicles and equipment, face painting and colouring in for the kids.

“It’s been a good day and we’ve seen a bunch of new faces. Lots of people are asking what the season is going to be like − some people have started their plans, some haven’t,” said Second Lieutenant Ian Ronalds.

“We’ve had a great response from our members – there are over 15 here. We’ve sent guys into town with balloons to promote the event and one of our members is out on the main road waving and encouraging passing cars to drop in.”

Brothers Jarrod and Liam West got a chance to hold the fire hose, and their Dad Mick said they were having a ball.

“I’ve seen the CFA Sunday signs around and thought it would be a good opportunity to bring the boys down − they both love fire trucks. They got their faces painted and got a chance to look inside the trucks.

Firefighter Daniel Eshuis, who recently attended the Members Engagement Forum, saw the day as a good way to connect with the community.

“We’ve been ramping up our community engagement and looking at different ways to engage people. Whether it’s a barbecue down the street or going along to a community event happening in town, the Chief Officer has said that this is where we’ll save the most lives.”
