A CFA volunteer has been hailed a hero after rescuing two children from a burning house on Saturday night.

John Hydes, who moved from New Zealand six months ago, saved his neighbour’s 5-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter from their Point Cook home minutes before the roof collapsed.

Mr Hydes is a volunteer with Grovedale Fire Brigade and recently moved to Point Cook. He spoke to media about the rescue saying "he just did what anyone would do" if faced with the same sitation.

See the ABC news clip attached, which includes an interview with Mr Hydes.
