People intending to build or extend their dwelling in an area covered by a Wildfire Management Overlay (WMO) now have an improved resource to help them with their application.

A revised version of CFA’s Building in a Wildfire Management Overlay - Applicant’s Workbook reflects the changes in building construction standards that were introduced last year, as well as various other updated messages.

The workbook guides people through the process of meeting the requirements of a WMO and includes a step-by-step self assessment tool, as well as:

  • Details on how to assess the bushfire risk
  • Details on how to choose the most appropriate site for a dwelling
  • A set of standard permit conditions relating to water supply, access requirements and vegetation management, and;
  • Guidance for alternative solutions to satisfy the requirements of the WMO if the standard conditions cannot be met.

The publication is more readable and the look and feel is now consistent with CFA’s other publications.

The Building in a Wildfire Management Overlay - Applicant's Workbook 2010 edition is available here.
