At about 9.50pm on Tuesday 24th January, Warragul and Drouin Fire Brigades responded to a report of a Unit Fire in Burke St, Warragul. Further information provided by VicFire was "multiple calls received, and the resident has not been located yet".

On arrival, the garage of the unit was fully involved, with fire spreading through the roof to the rest of the unit. 3 Breathing Apparatus crews conducted a primary search and internal fire attack, while another BA crew tackled the fire at the rear of the house. The fire was contained to the garage, with extensive structural damage to the roof, but no major damage to the remaining rooms in the house.

The resident was eventually contacted at another location, much to the relief of the firefighters on scene.

One of the crew members was injured by debris and was assessed by Ambulance Victoria. Ambulance Victoria transported him to West Gippsland Hospital for observation and he was released later that night.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by CFA Fire Investigators & Victoria Police.
