Two houses saved at Toolleen

CFA crews fought hard to successfully protect two properties under threat during a grass fire at Toolleen today.

The grass and scrub fire was called in just after 12pm near the Northern Highway.

It took CFA crews two hours to control the blaze which destroyed nearly 200 hectres of grassland.

Two water aircraft were also used to help contain the fire.

The 27 CFA trucks and over 100 firefighters at this incident were from Bendigo, Elmore, Girgarre, Heathcote, Eppalock, Axedale, Goornong, Costerfield, Hunter, Kamarooka, Knowsley, Timmering, Mt Camel, Stanhope, Rushworth, Tooborac, Colbinabbin, Corop, Corop West, Axe Creek, Junortoun and Mosquito Creek brigades.

Crews will remain on scene for some time.
