Prior to the elections, OIC Peter Lockwood presented the following report to the members present.
OFFICER IN CHARGE REPORT TO THE TRARALGON FIRE BRIGADE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2012
The past 12 months has seen some significant milestones for the Traralgon Fire Brigade.
The first is obviously the arrival of the Aerial Ladder Platform (Bronto) to the Traralgon Fleet. After much anticipation it arrived on Friday 5 December 2011 and an intensive training program has commenced for operators.
With the new Bronto now arrived, the station is currently undergoing an extension for extra accommodation for the additional staff to crew the appliance 24/7. Traralgon Fire Brigade has also been allocated 10 new career staff positions, those being five each of Leading Firefighters and Firefighters. CFA is currently working through the recruitment of these personnel.
The Traralgon Fire Brigade received the delivery of a new Mills Tui Heavy Pumper, to replace the former NSW design pumper. The additional features of this pumper certainly enhance our response capabilities.
The brigade trialled a new venue for the Annual Dinner, being the Traralgon Vineyard. Many favourable comments were forthcoming regarding the quality of the venue and some highlighted that it was the best Annual Dinner they have ever experienced. The organising committee did a fantastic job.
We have seen many faces leave the brigade, both staff and volunteers and many new faces have chosen to serve in our ranks. To those that have left I wish all the best and to those new to the brigade welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay. The result of our recruiting and extra volunteer capacity, especially during the day, has increased our service to the community immensely.
The brigade has supported the community in many different ways, including supporting community events. Whilst donations are offered on some occasions, it is very pleasing that brigade members do the ‘love jobs; to support our community. My thanks go once again to Anish Parekh and The Good Guys Traralgon for their ongoing support of the Brigade owned Nissan Patrol.
I wish to also thank our sponsors, in particular Loy Yang Power, Loy Yang B Power Station and Latrobe City. Their support is certainly appreciated in the purchasing of equipment in addition to that supplied by CFA, along with supporting the hosting of Fire Brigade Championships.
The Brigade Management Team has also done extensive work on a brigade strategic plan. Time constraints have not allowed the finalisation of that plan but it is a high priority to complete in the near future.
To all members, I am really pleased to hear very positive comments regarding the integration at Traralgon. It was mentioned to me recently that Traralgon was one of, if not, the best integrated brigade in the State. This has also been recognised at a State Level in CFA Management. This is all due to the work, effort and cooperation by everyone at Traralgon.
I wish to thank the BMT for your support and endeavours throughout the year. To the career officers, thanks for your leadership, management and support and for keeping things ticking over when I am absent.
To the career staff, the past year has been extreme in a workload sense and I realy admire the way you have approached the challenges we have been presented. The continual positive comments from surrounding brigades have been exceptional. It is also worthy of note that the CFA station budget came in on budget which is a credit to everyone in responsible financial management.
To the FEM Officer and Bob Crane, thanks once again for managing the FEM business as without this source of income the brigade would not be able to have the benefits we do now.
The membership of the Traralgon Fire Brigade, I thank you for commitment in training, meetings, community engagements, fire calls and the way you carry out your service to the brigade and the community.
To those seeking election this evening, all the best and I look forward to working with you during your term of office.
