Incident Controller Second Lieutenant Jason Baldwin from Frankston brigade radioed in a fire call with "Make tankers three" and headed off towards the nearby Peninsula Country Golf Club. When they arrived on scene at Nat's Track - a walkway between two golf courses - they found an area of grass and scrub burning about 200 metres from Skye Road.
With the wind howling and the fire starting to spot, a call for five tankers was placed. Gaining vehicular access for the trucks was initally a problem but it was sorted when the golf club's staff assisted in golf buggies. Tankers from Frankston, Baxter, Skye, Carrum Downs and Patterson River entered the course and ran 38mm hose lines for the fire attack.
Quick action and work by the crews managed to contain the fire to around a hectare and prevent the fire from entering other vegetation.
The fire came to an end as a wind change arrived and heavy rain hit the area, assisting with the blacking out.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
