About 250 people, including past and present members of the brigade, attended the dinner, which is the culmination of a series of centenary events held by the brigade throughout the year.
Sunbury Fire Brigade secretary Damian Hudson said the night was also attended by Fire Services Commissioner Craig Lapsley, CFA Chief Officer Euan Ferguson, and South Australian Country Fire Services Chief Officer Greg Nettleton.
“It was great to be able to have these leaders of the fire services attend our dinner,” Damian said.
“It was a fitting way to celebrate the culmination of our centenary year.”
Damian said another highlight of the event was the presentation of service awards.
This included two life memberships being awarded to ex-Captains Steve Riley and Peter Daly and a Gold Star, presented to Gary McMillan by Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria President Hans Van Hammond and CFA Board member Michael Tudball.
Long service awards were also presented to Aaron Dodd (10 years), James Clements (15 years), Keith Hall (45 years) and Dave Collett (55 years).
“It was also fantastic to be able to have the 24-piece Victoria Police Show Band provide entertainment for the evening,” Damian said.
“The facilities at Melton were great and the night seemed to be enjoyed by everyone.”
Other events held throughout the year to celebrate Sunbury’s centenary have included a breakfast, torchlight parade and museum display.
