Their solution, the Stradl fire hose bracket, represents a revolutionary breakthrough in how water is removed from a hose, without having to detach it from a tanker. The bracket also avoids the messy, time consuming procedure of using guy ropes on a horizontal hose rack, the traditional method of drying a hose.
“In the past we found the guy ropes wouldn’t suit the length of the hoses and we had to tie extra ropes to overcome this. Not being boy scouts and girl guides, we needed to find a better alternative, with the support of Yea Urban members,” says Don.
The bracket’s name – Stradl – is derived from the core functions of its use:
S – securing
T – tensioning
R – releasing
A – aerating
D – draining
L - liquid
A demonstration of the Stradl fire hose bracket in action can be found in the product video Don and Dianne put together, with the help of their neighbour, below.
Another feature of the Stradl bracket’s design means it can reduce the instances of coming into contact with contaminated water. As Don explains, “using the Stradl bracket to drain the hose eliminates using the ‘hose over shoulder’ method. We believe it is a much cleaner and safer way to drain hoses in the field.”
With a patent applied for and a Fire Awareness Award for Design and Construction awarded at the December 2011 awards ceremony, Don and Dianne are hoping the CFA-approved Stradl hose bracket will have wide uptake.
The Stradl fire hose bracket can be ordered through its website – www.stradl.com.au. Detailed product information is also available on the site.
