Christine Fyffe MP today addressed those present and then officially handed over the keys of the new Big Fill to Wonga Park Captain Kingsley Allen.
A brief history of the brigade was given by Captain Allen who then went on to speak of the roles their Big Fills have played in incidents throughout the region. This includes the events of February 2009 but more recently the structure which gutted the family home of golfer Aaron Baddeley in March this year.
The concept of this vital piece of equipment commenced back in 2005; but without the generous support of the Bendigo Bank Warrandyte, Phil Munday Panel Works, local businesses and the community it may never have come to realisation, said Captain Allen. "To the Wonga Park Brigade members and their families I thank you for your support."
CFA Board member John Peberdy, acknowledged the outstanding and valuable work CFA volunteers perform for their communities and the importance of seeing the brigades many hours of dedication and hard work come to a successful conclusion.
Sarah Wrigley, Bendigo Bank Warrandyte and Tony Smith MP were invited to address the audience with the captain then presented with an Australian flag by Mr Smith for their valuable contribution. On closing, guests were invited to inspect the Big Fill with its many unique features.
