Sorrento awards

Service totalling 180 years was recognised at the Sorrento Fire Brigade's annual dinner held recently.

Southern Metro Regional Director Peter Schmidt and Operations Officer Sean Kerr presented long service awards to Brigade ex Captain and life member Don Clark (50 years), Brigade life member John Garlick (45 years), 1st Lieutenant Darren Croad (25 years), Brigade member  Andrew Nettlefold  (25 years), Brigade Secretary John Twist (15 years), Brigade Communications Officer Michelle Croad (15 years) and 3rd Lieutenant Cameron Barker (5 years).

The Brigade also presented flowers to Don’s wife Nola in appreciation of the 50 years she has supported Don in providing his service to the Brigade. Other award recipients on the night were Brigade running team  Coaches Encouragement Award Lachlan Croad, Runner of the Year Anthony Nolan, Captains Encouragement Award Cameron Garratt and Brigade Fireman of the year Michael Versteegen. The prestigious “Stuff Up” award was won by Brigade Captain Jeff Willson.

In appreciation of  the number of Brigade turnouts, engraved mugs were presented to  ex Captain Cameron Stirling (1500 turnouts), Captain Jeff Willson (750 turnouts) and 3rd Lieutenant  Cameron Barker (500 turnouts).

Regional Director Peter Schmidt thanked the Brigade for their efforts throughout the year and spoke about the Brigades new satellite station at Blairgowrie enhancing service delivery to the Blairgowrie community.
