CFA Gippsland would like to advise people in Wellington Shire and Latrobe City that the smoke in the area is due to fires yesterday (Tues, 1 Feb) at Inverloch, south of Licola and McLoughlins Beach east of Yarram.
CFA Operations Officer Daryll Hunter said ‘These fires pose no immediate threat to residents of Wellington Shire and Latrobe City, however smoke is expected to be present for a number of days.’
‘Community members who suffer from asthma are advised to stay indoors where possible and also ensure they have appropriate and sufficient medication available.’ Mr Hunter said.
Wellington Shire and Latrobe City residents are encouraged to only call emergency services (triple zero) in the instance that they see fire.
With the experience of a number of fires yesterday it is clear that the bushfire season is not over.
‘It is important that community members ensure that they have undertaken property preparation and planning to ensure they have a working Bushfire Survival Plan to enact in the event of a fire affecting them.’ Mr Hunter said.
