Melton Fire Brigade were paged to a reported ‘smoke issuing from a roof’ in busy Station Road, just after 11pm on Thursday night.

With the time of night being a factor at a private residence, a BA crew were sent straight into the single story brick veneer house to search for any occupants.

With the fire quickly knocked down with a line of 38, and the house cleared of any occupants, a crew wearing breathing apparatus re-entered the structure with gas monitoring equipment to test the atmosphere for any dangerous particles in the air after the house was ventilated. Anyone working near the structure were also wearing P2 masks.

Police remained on scene overnight until fire investigation arrived.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Appliances in attendance were;

Melton – Pumper, Pumper-Tanker, Tanker, Car.

The OIC of the incident was Station Officer Lachlan Redman.
