Smoke alarm saves Rowville family

A family of five was saved by a smoke alarm after fire destroyed their Rowville home this morning.

CFA was called to the incident in Westminster Drive just after 3.30am where the two-storey house was fully engulfed in flames.

(Footage taken by neighbour)

Operations Officer Jason Lawrence said initially it was thought one of the family members was missing, however, she was later found at a friend’s house.

It took crews from Bayswater, Dandenong, Rowville and Scoresby more than an hour to bring the fire under control.

OO Lawrence said the house had been totally destroyed by fire and as a result, a cause is not able to be determined. He said the fire is believed to have started in one of the bedrooms and is not suspicious.
