CFA Operations Officer Wayne Rigg has taken some great photos from Firebird 309 during a grassfire at Skipton.

The aerial photos show CFA crews on scene at a grassfire that took place at around 2pm on Friday 10 February after a roadside burn escaped containment lines following a change in wind conditions.

Rostered Duty Officer Ian Morley commended crews on scene for their efforts to contain the grassfire to 48 hectares, given the windy conditions and multiple lightning strikes taking place in the area.

“Brigades had the fire contained in approximately an hour and a half, and spent quite some time on scene mopping up into the evening and patrolling during the following day. The damage was limited primarily to fencing, and all sheds and machinery on nearby properties were saved.

“Support was provided by local police to assist with any traffic management issues, and school buses were held up for a short amount of time until the area was declared safe.”
