The 25 recruits practiced a series of activities including use of breathing apparatus, foam drills, pump drills, and a simulated car fire, fuel fire and gas fire.
The recruits were trained by instructors from Fiskville as well as local Longerenong Practical Area Drill (PAD) operators on site.
Supervisor of the Longerenong Field Training Ground (FTG), Chris Rosewall says the recruits were nearing the end of the sixteen week course and were pleased to continue their training at the Wimmera facility.
“I believe this is the first time that the career recruit course has attended hot fire training at a FTG, so we were very pleased to host them and offer a different environment’” Chris says. “Our local PAD operators really enjoyed it as well as they had a chance to see a different level of skill training which they don’t normally get to do,”
Chris said the feedback by the instructors and recruits was very positive about the experience at Longerenong. “It was a lot of preparation for us and hard work for my staff, but we would welcome a recruit course back here at any time,”
Chris says Longerenong FTG will get some improvements to facilities this year including an enlargement of the BA training area. “We will also be able to recharge our cylinders, something we currently can’t do.”
