Ravenhall landfill fire still going

A fire overnight at a landfill at Ravenhall has been controlled but will continue to slowly burn out for some time.

Nine CFA trucks, including three from MFB, were called to the fire on Riding Boundary road just after 2.30 this morning.

Firefighters arrived to find a 50X20 metre area of rubbish well alight which took over an hour to control.

CFA sent out a warning at 6.15am saying the industrial landfill is expected to burn for the next 24 hours and put smoke in to the atmosphere.

Two CFA crews are still at the scene and will continue to monitor the site for some time.

There are also four dozers from the landfill site assisting with blacking out the hot spots.

The cause of the fire is not yet determined however CFA suspects the rubbish spontaneously combusted.
