Radio rollout crosses finish line

Monday, 02 July 2012

The installation of the new Tait portable and mobile radios has been completed at fire brigades in District 16.  This ends the rollout of approximately 9000 Tait radios which replace the out of service Motorola radios.

More than 9000 Tait P25 digital portable and mobile radios have been installed at 1220 CFA brigades across Victoria as part of a complex Radio Replacement Project (RRP) managed by CFA, Tait Communications and local partner AA Radio Services.

Stawell was the final fire brigade in District 16 to have the new radios installed in vehicles.

“The Radio Replacement Project is all about putting better communications technology into the hands of firefighters,” says CFA Project Director Doug Booth.

In addition to new portable and mobile units, the Radio Replacement Project is currently developing new ‘Transportable Radios’ to replace the old ‘seat belt radios’ that were mounted on the front seat of some CFA and brigade vehicles. More than 1500 of these radios will be distributed amongst CFA brigades later this year.
