Yarra Area GM, Lex de Man's latest Boundary Alignment update.

As previously advised, I will be sending regular updates on the progress of the Boundary Alignment Project. This is the nineteenth - GM’s Update re: - Boundary Alignment Project - Update No. 19/2010. I will continue to keep you informed as we move forward.

Brigade templates

The Brigade templates are coming along well and we are now lifting information from them and placing it in the Yarra Area Brigade Summary Template. This includes an overview on the items to be resolved under each function and the timelines for action. The document is then sent for feedback and action to the Area Functional Managers.

Back to Boundary Alignment Project

Some Brigades are still working on their Templates and collating information. Administration assistance is available for Brigades if required.

Joint AMT Meetings

Yarra Area and Outer Metro Norwest Area

The third joint AMT meeting was held at Eltham Fire Station last Thursday with members from Yarra Area and Outer Metro Norwest Area (Region 14) . At this meeting the Functional Managers provided an overview on their work to date for each of the functions as to how the Boundary Alignment work is progressing. The next meeting will be held on 3 June 2010 at Eltham Fire Station.

Yarra Area and North East Area

The second joint AMT meeting was held at the Kinglake West Fire Station yesterday with members from Yarra Area and North East Area (Region 12). After an overview from the Functional Managers, a brainstorming session was held to identify the issues and challenges around the 1 July milestone. Short term and long term action items were identified and agreed upon by the AMTs. The next meeting will be held on 10 June 2010.

Headquarters/Area Workshop

A Problem Solving Workshop was held on Monday of this week with General Managers from each Area, key Headquarters staff from the various Directorates and the Headquarters Boundary Alignment Project Team. The General Managers provided a progress update on each Area. The meeting/workshop was an opportunity to highlight action items that Areas require assistance with from the various Directorates and the Headquarters Boundary Alignment Team.

Functional Managers Update

This weeks GM’s Update sees the first of a series of regular updates from the Functional Managers as to the work being undertaken on the Boundary Alignment Project. This week the focus is on the Finance & Administration and Training Functions.

Finance and Administration Update

The Finance and Administration Team from Yarra Area held a workshop with the Finance and Administration Team from Outer Metro Norwest Area on Wednesday 5 May at the Lilydale Office to discuss Boundary Alignment items.

The meeting was extremely productive and provided the staff members with the following:

  • An understanding of the work involved relating to Boundary Alignment for the Finance and Administration Teams.
  • The appropriate linkages with their counterparts to work through the required processes for Boundary Alignment transition to ensure a successful transition for brigades.
  • An opportunity to work through the various items relating to Boundary Alignment and to commence/complete the required work.

A follow up meeting between the two Finance & Administration Teams is scheduled for Wednesday 9 June at the Outer Metro Norwest Area Office at Melton.

Training and Development Update

Acting Manager Training and Development, Richard Cromb has met on various occasions over the past few months with his colleagues from the Outer Metro Norwest, Westernport and North East Areas to discuss aspects relating to Training.

Discussions have been held around training processes and management arrangements in each Area/Region and what has to occur to ensure a smooth transition for Brigades.

All Managers have reinforced their commitment to be flexible and have an undertaking to work together to provide ongoing training and development during the transition and into the future.

Yarra Area has compiled a Brigade Training profile for each transitioning Brigade and this profile was given to the appropriate MT&D as a brief introduction to the transitioning brigade.

Familiarisation meetings/tours

On Sunday the 16th May the AMT from Outer Metro Norwest Area/Region 14 and other staff toured the Nillumbik area and met with representatives from those Brigades currently located in Yarra Area who will be transitioning to the new North West Metropolitan Region/District 14.  The tour provided an opportunity for Brigade representatives to meet with General Manager Gill Metz, the Functional Managers and other ‘District 14’ staff.

On Tuesday the 25th May the career staff from Eltham Fire Brigade will be travelling to the Outer Metro Norwest Headquarters at Melton as part of the transition plan.  The Eltham Fire Brigade is the only Integrated Brigade within the State transitioning from a Area/Region into a new Region/District.  The Eltham staff will meet with members of the Outer Metro Norwest AMT and other staff at the Melton Office as part of their introduction into the new District 14.
