Greenvale Fire Brigade 1st Lieutenant Loretta Martin recently represented CFA during a 9/11 remembrance service, hosted by the Victorian branch of the Australian American Association.

Held to mark 10 years since the New York City terrorist attacks, the service involved a number of emergency services personnel walking in a march through Melbourne’s CBD.

“I was positioned at the end of the march along side the US Navy Sailor and behind the representative from Ambulance Victoria,” Loretta said.

“Participating in the service was a huge honour, knowing that I was representing the whole of the CFA.

“It made me feel proud of what we do in the community along with what other emergency services do as well.”

When reflecting on the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Loretta added that she often thinks of the firefighters who lost their lives, and the families they left behind.

“Even though you don't know any of them, you feel a sense of loss,” she said.

“It also makes me proud to know that what I’m doing makes a difference.
