Progress at Fiskville

CFA continues to make good progress implementing the 10 recommendations laid out in the Professor Joy Report and 11 additional management initiatives at its Fiskville Training College.

Last week, CFA and WorkSafe met as part of the ongoing work at Fiskville and to look at efforts made since environmental engineering firm Cardno Lane Piper was engaged to deliver improvements at the training ground.

WorkSafe issued an Improvement Notice (IN) and advised that signs and a perimeter fence should  be installed around dams at the site to ensure no access by unauthorised people. Installation of the signs will occur in the very near future once the new signs arrive at the site. CFA is committed to ensuring the safety of staff and volunteers at Fiskville and it remains a priority for CFA now and into the future – training will continue at the site and it is safe for all staff, trainees, volunteers and visitors.

CFA will continue to work with WorkSafe to ensure Fiskville remains the organisation’s primary training facility that will serve CFA and other agencies for decades to come.

Great to hear CFA is being proactive about implementing these recommendations, all be it under the direction of a Provitional Improvement Notice. What plans does CFA have about rectifying  Toxic firefighting water and removing the potential VOC's from the dams and reducing the E-coli content to a safe level.

Hi Brian. We have commissioned a comprehensive study by Cardno Lane Piper into the options for re-engineering the firewater supply, treatment and recirculation system at Fiskville to ensure fit-for-purpose water quality at Fiskville. Until this is complete, only mains/town water is being used at Fiskville. This is an entirely separate system to the dam water system.
