Pretty gaseous in Sunbury

At approximatey 1240hrs on New Years Day, Sunbury and Diggers Rest brigades were paged to a reported car leaking gas in Yardley Street, Sunbury.

Once onscene, Station Officer Morris from Sunbury, found a Ford Ute  in a driveway with a leak coming from a faulty solenoid on the LPG tank.

“We got in there to have a look to see if we could stop the leak manually, but it just wouldn’t seal off,” explains SO Morris.

Once the area was made safe, a number of Sunbury and Diggers Rest appliances were released, with Sunbury Pumper and Tanker 1 remaining for fire cover. Gisborne Fire Brigade’s LPG Support was then requested through Vicfire to Flare-Off the remaining gas in the tank.

Due to the weather on the day being in the mid 30’s, crews were rotated through tasks, removing turnout gear when not being utilised, remaining in the shade and hydrating every 15 minutes.

Once all the connections were made from the tank to the burner in the middle of the street, it took nearly 30 minutes to flare off.

Appliances onscene were;

Sunbury – Pumper, Tanker 1, Pumper-Tanker.

Diggers Rest – Tanker 2.

Gisborne – Gas Support.
