The first phase covered the removal of the spilt pitch at the port and preparations are underway for phase two, which is cleaning inside the out of service tank.
On Friday 20th April, the final truck load of pitch was taken from Portland to Koppers Newcastle facilities where it will be remelted back into pitchstock for reuse.
The clean up was undertaken by highly skilled professionals using specifically designed equipment and Koppers’ management has paid tribute to all those involved in this successful project.
Close communications with all stakeholders including the EPA, Glenelg Shire Council and other key stakeholders was maintained throughout and will continue.
