This Bushfire CRC research systematically identifies the ‘human factors’ that contribute to potentially risky decision-making by firefighters on the fire ground – that is, decision-making that can lead to critical errors. Importantly, it reveals how, from the firefighters’ own perspective, they think and act under high-pressure situations.

The government has announced interim planning provisions to simplify residents' entitlements to clear native vegetation around their homes as part of their preparations for the 2009/10 fire season.
