The Otways Action Reseach project, a partnership project between CFA and DSE, is assessing the benefits of fire conversations and local fire planning with community members in the Otways.

In the video below, community members and agency staff discuss the benefits of strategic fire conversations in their local towns located in the Otways Victoria Australia.

Benefits reported include; better networks, shared fire plans, peer learning, trust building, sharing local and expert knowledge. Conversations are conducted using a facilitated process which uses the principles of community development. This enables participants to gain ownership of the process, who are then better able to respond collectively to emergency.

Agencies can benefit from a fire conversation approach which enables meaningful relationships and partnerships with local communities for better fire preparedness.
