New recruits bond over BBQ lunch

Wodonga brigade’s two newest recruits were introduced to life on station today as they began their transition from their 16 week recruit course to learning CFA’s method of service delivery.

Fresh from their Friday graduation ceremony held at CFA’s Fiskville Training College, Jamie Dahlenburg and Mark Strack had their first day as level one firefighters on the job, and no calls. For Wodonga Station Officer David Brown, this wasn’t a bad thing. “This is when we work with the new firefighters to help them understand CFA’s method of service delivery. Our brigade suggested we put on a BBQ to welcome the new recruits and it was attended by the on-duty staff, the two new recruits and around 15 of our volunteers.”

One attendee at the BBQ, firefighter Sean Murphy, was in the same position as Jamie and Mark this time last year, when he first arrived at Wodonga. “It was heartening to see Sean being the new guy 12 months ago, and taking on a leadership role today,” said David. “The brigade is excited by the new level one firefighters and we look forward to working closely with them to develop their careers.”
