Proving the response of CFA goes well beyond the fire fight, a number of District 8 brigades were recently involved in the rescue of two teenagers from a cliff.

The photos below demonstrate the rescue, which was performed by C-shift members of the Dandenong Fire Brigade.

Incident Controller John Townsend said the steep angle rescue involved firefighters using ropes to abseil down the cliff to reach two teenage boys and lower them to the beach.

IC Townsend said the operation was “highly successful” and demonstrated the broad skill-base of CFA members.

He said the rescue involved a number of brigades including Mornington, Mount Martha and Dromana. An SES unit from Hastings also attended, as well as police and ambulance.

The rescue occurred late in the afternoon on 23 November.
