Man missing at treatment plant

CFA crews are working closely with Melbourne Water to find a man believed to have fallen into a sewage pit at a treatment plant at Bangholme.

The lab technician, believed to be in his 50s, started work at 6.15 this morning and has not been sighted since 8.45am. The man was taking samples at the 1.5 million litre open sewage pit which is where crews found some of his work equipment.

Melbourne Water is currently pumping the sludge out of the pit which could take up to 4 hours to empty. Melbourne Water also have specialist divers on scene looking for the man.

The multi agency event also involves SES, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police and Work Cover.

CFA crews on scene are from Frankston, Carrum Downs, Hallam, Patterson River and Dandenong.
