A grassfire in the Lyndhurst area of Melbourne's south eastern suburbs was brought under control by CFA, DSE, and water bombing aircraft this evening.

A 2x2 metre shed was destroyed in the fire and flames got close to one home but no damage was caused to the house.

31 CFA vehicles and around 100 crew were involved in the firefight from Berwick, Carrum Downs, Clyde, Cranbourne, Dandenong, Devon Meadows, Edithvale, Frankston, Hallam, Hampton Park, Keysborough, Langwarrin, Mt Eliza, Narre Warren, Patterson River, Pearcedale,Skye, and Springvale.

One firefighter was treated at the scene by Ambulance Victoria suffering from heat stress.

Smoke from the fire covered large ares of the south-eastern suburbs and the community was asked not to phone '000' unless they could see flames.

The fire is estimated to have burned approximately 50 hectares over a period of 4 hours. Crews will be blacking out and patrolling the fire throughout the night.
