An annual community event and school fundraiser, the community farm fair is a fun get together for families and was a perfect event for the brigade to reach the townspeople with its safety messages.
“In our primary turn out area, we have a significant area next to state forest and it has been six years since our last big fires and people are getting complacent,” said Cowwarr brigade member and Communications Officer Ann Gibbs.
“We chose the "can I or can't I" and summer grass fire dangers as our topics for the day. As well as having the truck there and providing lots of opportunities for people to talk to us, we got involved in the activities of the day.”
Held on 16 September, the farm fair’s scheduled activities included a cow pat lotto, farmers’ challenge races, best farm character costume competition – including best scarecrow – and shearing and milking demonstrations.
