Linton fire tenth anniversary

Posted by
Monday, 01 December 2008

Tuesday 2 December 2008 marks the tenth anniversary of the tragic Linton fire that claimed the lives of five CFA members on this date in 1998.

by Darren Grevis-James

Jason Thomas, Matthew Armstrong, Christopher Evans, Stuart Davidson and Garry Vredeveldt, all from the Geelong West fire brigade died when their truck was entrapped and lost in the bushfire at Linton.

All members of CFA will remember the ultimate sacrifice these firefighters made in protecting the community of Victoria. Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of Jason, Matthew, Christopher, Stuart and Garry.

The outcome of the Linton tragedy and other incidents, serve to reinforce the importance of continual improvement in occupational health and safety.
