Several CFA and MFB crews have battled for several hours to extinguish a large rubbish fire at the rear of the Knox Transfer Station on George Street, Wantirna South on Monday 22 October.

CFA was alerted to the fire just before 4.30pm after calls to a large column of black smoke in the area.

An Advice message was issued alerting residents to fire activity and smoke in the area.

Two large mattress piles are well alight and as a result, some small spot fires also broke out in the immediate area.

Five CFA trucks from Scoresby, Boronia and Rowville were on scene assisted by five MFB trucks. Two CFA crews from Bayswater also assisted.

The fire was controlled around 9.30pm and fully extinguished by early Tuesday morning.

The cause remains undetermined, however it is not considered suspicious.
