Jim's assessment is modest indeed. Last year the eight Knox Group brigades - The Basin, Bayswater, Boronia, Montrose, Ferntree Gully, Scoresby, Rowville and Upper Ferntree Gully - raised around $25,000 by collecting on the streets. And their best effort - until this year - was $35,000.
Last Friday the eight brigades raised just over $40,000.
"The number of Basin volunteers collecting on the corner of Mountain Hwy and Dorset Rd was fantastic," adds Jim, who's been involved with the Good Friday Appeal for 29 years.
The Basin members started collecting on a gloriously sunny morning at 7.30am and knocked off at 2pm. They then went to Boronia to count the Group's fundraising effort, and enjoyed a lunch prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary.
Seven vehicles then travelled in convoy to Etihad Stadium in Docklands to hand over the cash in front of Channel 7 and Channel 9 cameras.
