Torquay CFA and SES in close co-operation

30/08/2011

Torquay brigade members attended their 5th Tuesday barbeque with the SES and Freshwater Creek Brigade as our guests.

The SES were really keen and around twenty of their members attended.

At 6.30 the BBQ commenced at the Station. Alison and her crew did a fantastic job feeding the hungry crew of nearly seventy.

We then walked down to The SES depot where they went to a lot of trouble demonstrating the slicing up of a vehicle for extractions using hydraulic cutters and spreaders. It was great for our people to get a first-hand close up look while not being distracted with our fire suppression duties at a MVA incident.

The SES offered eighteen of our crew the chance to be inside the vehicles while they used their hydraulic tools to cut up the car. For the exercise the Brigade members wore full PPE with P2 masks and goggles and got to experience what it is like from the other side of the incident; the patients being extracted.

With the Demo concluded we returned to fire station for dessert.

All agreed it was a highly interesting evening and demonstrated the close relationship between the emergency services in Torquay.
