When mother nature struck on Friday 4 February brigades in the Southern Metropolitan Region found themselves responding to an unprecedented number of flood and swift water rescue calls that continued well into Saturday – a far cry from the typical February bushfire calls.
Since 24 January D8 has been supporting the North Eastern floods with Strike Teams, Ground Obs, Air Obs, Information Unit teams, IMT specialist roles, EMLOs and Command and Control personnel.
Last week (04.01.11-11.02.11) CFA attended to a total of 1325 incidents, 103 of those structure related; 135 non-structure related; 38 grass fires; 17 hazmat incidents; 40 rescues; 392 false alarms; seven jobs to assist other agencies; and 590 other types of incidents.
As Victoria was hit by a sudden downpour on Friday night 4 Feb, many fire trucks didn't made it back to their stations until the early hours of Saturday.
