Belmont, Grovedale and Geelong Fire Brigades attended a plane crash on the Surf Coast Highway at Mount Duneed west of Geelong on Saturday morning.

With the flooded Avoca River flowing down the main street in Charlton, about five brigades from the Charlton group were called out on Monday morning to do some grunt work.

CFA has been assisting SES after heavy rains inundated the state causing widespread damage with some of the worst flooding in a decade.

Members from brigades across District 15 assisted firefighters from Creswick and Clunes last weekend as the worst floods in a decade poured through the region.

The heavy rains that caused intense flooding throughout District 15 over the weekend saw members from rural and urban brigades don gumboots and raincoats rather than wildfire gear as they turned out to assist their SES colleagues.
