Eighteen appliances - including a helitak from Sealake and two bulldozers - were used to stop the fire which burnt out more than 70 hectares before being controlled.
State Duty Officer Daryl Owen said a Watch and Act warning was issued at around 3pm as crews fought to get the grass and scrub blaze under control.
"This was a low intensity scrub and grass fire but it was difficult to access due to the terrain which made it more challenging to control," he said.
"It is a timely warning that although conditions seem wet in some places, fire can and will still burn."
Crews will continue blacking out through-out the night
