House fire in Warragul

At approximately 01:15 on Saturday morning (9th June), Warragul and Drouin Fire Brigades were called to a reported house fire at the Smith Street, Craig Street intersection.

As the crews turned out the brigades were given further information that the house was fully involved and had begun to collapse. The smoke issuing from the structure fire was clearly visible as the crews turned out.

On arrival crews quickly determined that the fire was not under control and due to the risk of structural collapse and injury to firefighters, a request for the attendance of a specialist Ladder Platform appliance from Dandenong Fire Brigade was made.

Crews continued to attack the fire externally until the arrival of the Ladder Platform which then allowed firefighters to get a birds eye view of the fire and complete extinguishing.

"With the quick response from Warragul and Drouin Fire Brigades and the fact that the house wasn't occupied at the time, we were able to stop the spread of fire fairly quickly, but nonetheless the entire house was extensively damaged by fire & smoke," said Incident Controller Lt Venville.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by CFA Fire Investigators and Victoria Police.
