Eight patients were relocated to higher parts of the Apollo Bay Hospital last night when the rear of the building was inundated with flood water.

Apollo Bay firefighters were called at 9.17pm last night to help pump 200mm of water from the premises in McLachlan Street.

By 11pm crews had stopped water entering the hospital but remained on scene to assist with the clean up.

The State Emergency Service was also activated to assist.

The incident was closed just before 1am this morning.
