Hollywood comes to Toolern Vale

A little bit of Hollywood came to Toolern Vale last week with future graduates of the Victorian College of the Arts filming a short movie on farmer’s land adjacent to the Toolern Vale Fire Station.

Actors, film crews, directors, producers, make-up people, stunt people, were all on hand over the good part of a week filming “What Remains”, a ten minute movie to be used as their final assessment before they graduate.

Toolern Vale Fire Station was put to go use over the week, being their ‘home away from home’ while filming.

“We let them put up their marquees and use the kitchen facilities at the station” explains Captain Craig Dunshea. They could also come and go to load their footage onto their computers during the exercise.

On Tuesday night, a caravan was selected to be burnt during the penultimate scene in the movie. With camera crews and actors at the ready, the stunt advisors set the caravan alight remotely, all the time having plenty of water, extinguishers and hose lines at the ready in case things got out of hand. It also helped that there was a fire station next door.

Crews wrapped up late into the night, with a decent portion of apple crumble dished out after the final “CUT” was yelled to all the starving workers.

Just another way Toolern Vale Fire Brigade can help out without attending to an emergency.
