Hay shed fire at Kalimna

A 40mt x 8mt hay shed with 200 bales was lost in an early morning fire at Kalimna on Saturday (16 June).

Kalimna West Captain Bernard Albercht made the call for "make tankers 6" after the reported grass and scrub turned out to be a Hay Shed fire fully involved.

The fire was reported at 08:29hours and was situated along the Princes Highway at Kalimna, (5 km north-west of Lakes Entrance), received multiple calls including reports that the house on the property was under threat.

10 appliances, 40 firefighters from 6 brigades responded; Lakes Entrance Fire Brigade Captain and Incident Controller Geof Bassett said that "CFA crews did a great job to protect the exposure of the house"

200 hay bales, a tractor and slasher along with other farming tools were destroyed in the fire. An excavator was brought in to break down the bales to assist in the extinguishment.

The cause was yet to be determined.
