CFA, SES and Ambulance Victoria personnel answered the call, which came in just after 1pm on Sunday 15 January, in what was the fourth aircraft incident in CFA’s Hume region over the past fortnight.
Benalla brigade member Robert Scott said the glider had been impacted by severe downdrafts and couldn’t maintain sufficient elevation.
“As the pilots attempted to land the glider in a nearby paddock, it clipped a barbed wire fence,” he said.
"SES and Ambulance worked for one hour to extract the two pilots, one an instructor and one a student, both in their sixties.
“Unfortunately this was the second glider accident we’ve seen in Benalla in 14 days following an incident on New Year’s Day.”
“A real positive for us was to see, once again, the solid level of multi-agency cooperation in the area – we all work pretty well together,” said Robert.
